Five ways to think about plastic waste on World Environment Day

It's World Environment Day (June 5, 2023) and this year's focus is on plastic solutions.

With reusable plastic bags being phased out of major supermarkets, we take a look at some of the other ways to reduce the use of plastic in every day life.

Here's five places to start.

These days almost everyone carried a drink bottle.

But how often should you be washing them to keep them hygienic?

It depends on what they're made from.

Cleanaway's 2023 recycling behaviours report reveals that, while most of us know it's important to pop our waste in the right bin, 62 per cent of us are disposing of our coffee cups incorrectly.

While it's can be complicated, here's a general rule that's easy to remember.

Reducing plastic waste can be hard, especially when you try to eliminate it before it even arrives in your home.

Three ABC reporters tried to do just that with their weekly grocery shop — here are their biggest takeaways.

Colleen Hughson spent a week walking along the Victorian coastline, collecting plastic waste.

Soon, the environmentalist was joined by a team of family, friends and local landowners.

Together they collected more than 420 kilograms of marine debris.

Stashing soft plastic in the pantry? Have a laundry basket full of plastic items to recycle?

There's a lot of effort that goes into recycling, especially when you've got a zero-waste goal.
