The United Way of Bruce Grey is holding its annual Thank an Educator fundraiser.
Fundraising Champion Kristy Andre says the fundraiser gives people the chance to provide a certificate to a special teacher, educational assistant or early childcare educator.
"The whole idea is that if you don't want to get them a gift like a ‘Number 1 Teacher’ mug, a pen or pen holder or any kind of typical gift, this is a chance for you to get them a gift that is very impactful," says Andre.
She says the $20 certificate can be printed out at the Untied Way or emailed to give to your chosen educator.
All the funds raised from this program also goes towards the backpack program, which provides fully stocked backpacks to students in need.
The United Way says their backpack program has also successfully reduced classroom bullying by ensuring every child, regardless of their family's financial situation, begins school with the essential supplies they need.
"Over the past 18 years, we have distributed 32,808 backpacks to low-income students in Bruce and Grey counties," says the United Way.
More information on how to purchase a certificate can be found on the Thank an Educator website here.
